When it comes to updating American farm policy, the country is still waiting on the Senate.
The farm bill is still caught up in Senate wrangling, but Friday brought good news for the millions anticipating action on the next farm bill as the current bill expires out at the end of this year.
On Friday the Senate began debating amendments to its farm bill after an impasse several weeks ago over the amount and nature of those amendments. Voting on those amendments won't start until Tuesday, and debate could last most of the week.
The House of Representatives passed its version of the farm bill in July. After the Senate passes its version, the bill will go to conference committee before it reaches the president's desk.
