CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An off-track betting parlor has opened here.
University Teletrack, the fifth off-track betting parlor opened by Fairmount Park of Collinsville, opened Thursday in University Place Shopping Center, located on Route 13 on the city's east side.
The new facility, which occupies about 9,000 square feet, will open at noon seven days a week, with racing programs each afternoon and evening.
Race fans can see live races from Fairmount Park and other Illinois race tracks as well as races of national interest, like the Kentucky Derby and Breeders Cup, said the developers.
Thoroughbred racing or harness racing can be viewed throughout the year. Gregory Graves, general manager of the facility, said the occupancy of the parlor is 250 to 275.
Races from Arlington International Race Course are on schedule at 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Post time for races from Fairmount Park will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with post time at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Harness racing from Sportsman's Park will be shown every Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
Sandwiches and pizza are available.
The business will employ about 45 people.
