CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Faculty and staff at Southeast Missouri State University have pledged $290,102 to the university's "New Vision of Excellence" capital campaign.
A total of 258 university employees have contributed. The $25 million campaign seeks to raise funds for programs at the university, including $2.4 million for a new College of Business Administration building and $1.6 million for an athletic complex and renovations to Houck Stadium.
To date, campaign gifts have reached a total of $19.85 million.
As to the contributions from faculty and staff, Don Ford, director of development at the university said: "These people represent a significant leadership level on this campus and have ownership in this campaign. That is crucial as we continue on in this endeavor.
"Overall, I am very pleased with the results," Ford said. "I think it is absolutely wonderful."
Twenty-three of the 258 gifts from university employees were each for $5,000 or more. Those donors include Dr. Kala Stroup, university president; Dr. Robert Foster, executive vice president; Dr. Leslie Cochran, provost; Art Wallhausen, assistant to the president; James Biundo, university relations director; Dr. Sheila Caskey, dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning; Dr. Betty Fulton, economics professor; Drs. Jerry and Susan Haugland, professors of accounting and finance and home economics, respectively; Dr. John Hinni, dean of the School of University Studies; Dr. Martin Jones, dean of the College of Liberal Arts; Dr. Han Kang, political science professor; and Drs. Bert and Mary Ann Kellerman, professors of marketing and human environmental studies, respectively.
The major donors also include: Jacque and Dr. Priscilla LeMone, athletics business manager and assistant nursing professor, respectively; Marvin Proffer, government affairs consultant; Dr. Keith Russell, accounting and finance associate professor; Dr. Richard Schmidt, dean of the College of Business Administration; Dr. Charles Sharp, history professor; and Dr. Edward Spicer, associate to the president.
Also making major donations were Dr. Lenore Bierbaum, dean of the College of Education; Dr. Linda Cochran, economic development director; Darlene Dunning, associate professor of business education and office administration; Ford; and Dr. Martin Needels, associate professor of history.
