This year marks the first time the local United Way's annual meeting -- usually a lunch -- will be a dinner, scheduled for 7 p.m. March 29 at The Drury Lodge.

That's not the only change in the routine planned by Nancy Jernigan, executive director of the community-assistance organization that serves Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City. Jernigan said three new awards will be presented at the dinner. These awards, which are to become an annual tradition, recognize one outstanding community volunteer, one local business and one local agency funded by the United Way.
