Two Sikeston, Mo., men were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries after a one-vehicle accident Wednesday night on Interstate 55.
According to a report released by the Scott City Fire Department, the incident occurred at about 7:55 p.m. near mile marker 87. A southbound sport-utility vehicle ran off the interstate and overturned on an embankment. After authorities arrived at the accident scene, a hydraulic tool was used to extricate both occupants from the vehicle. The men were transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the driver of the vehicle as Nicholas T. Whitley, 23, and the passenger as Andrew M. Williams, 20. Both men were wearing seat belts.
