A two-vehicle collision Monday on Highway 51 in Perry County seriously injured two people.
Bernard J. Meyer of Perryville, no age given, and Jasper N. Hollingsworth, 44, of Fredericktown, were taken to St. Francis Medical Center, said the Missouri Highway Patrol at Flat River.
A nursing supervisor said Hollingsworth remained in critical condition Monday night; Meyer's condition was described as serious. Both had to be extricated from the wreckage by the Perry County Fire Department and Perry County Ambulance Service, said a patrol spokeswoman.
The accident occurred at 10:35 a.m. when a car driven by Meyer pulled into the path of a car driven by Leo T. Bascom, 58, of Catawissa, the patrol said.
The Bascom vehicle was northbound on Highway 51 approaching the intersection of Route O when the Meyer vehicle, headed westbound on the route, tried to make a left turn onto the highway. The patrol spokeswoman said the Bascom vehicle struck the Meyer vehicle on the left side.
She identified Hollingsworth as a passenger in the Meyer vehicle. Bascom was wearing a seat belt, but neither Meyer nor Hollingsworth were, she said.
