METROPOLIS, Ill. -- Two Illinois residents died when two vehicles collided on Route 145 about seven miles north of Metropolis Saturday morning.

The victims were identified by Illinois State Police as Todd R. Butler, 37, of Pekin, driver of one of the vehicles, and Kenyari Lindsey, a 19-year-old woman, of Harrisburg, a passenger in the second vehicle.

A spokesman for the State Police said the Butler vehicle was traveling northbound on Route 145. A vehicle driven by Heather D. Redwine, of Harrisburg, was traveling south, and was passing a vehicle at the crest of a hill, when the two collided head-on.

Three passengers in the Butler vehicles suffered major injuries and were taken to Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky. They were Sandra L. Butler, 37; Kevin Butler, 4; and Haley Butler, 2.

Redwine also suffered major injures and was taken to Western Baptist. Two passengers in the Redwine vehicle - Brooklyn Roland, 16, and Whitney Roland, 18, both of Elgin, Ill. -- suffered minor injuries.

The Illinois State Police is still investigating the accident.
