JACKSON -- Two men whose vehicle was stopped late Jan. 1 on East Jackson Boulevard for having a light out were arrested for attempting to manufacture methamphetamine. Capt. Bob Hull of the Jackson police said the driver, James Hendrix of Sikeston, appeared nervous to the officer when pulled over. "He was fumbling through his wallet. When the officer asked him to step out of the vehicle he was fidgeting with his hands so the officer asked if he could search the car," Hull said. Permission was given, the captain said. In the vehicle, the arresting officer found 18 boxes of various brands of pseudophedrine, one of the basic ingredients used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Hendrix also was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon because he had an illegal knife, officers said.
The other man, Donald G. Williams of Welgen, Ill., also was arrested for forgery for failing to give the officer his real name.
Bond was set at $25,000 for both men. They remained in the Cape Girardeau County Jail Friday.
