CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Police are investigating a weekend shooting that injured two people early Sunday in Charleston.
About 3:30 a.m. Sunday, officers with the Charleston Department of Public Safety were advised of shots fired in the area of Tenth and Helena streets, DPS director Robert E. Hearnes said.
Officers discovered two people who had been shot. The victims, ages 17 and 23, both of Charleston, were taken to area medical facilities for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.
"Neither victim is cooperating with the investigation at this time," Hearnes said.
About 4 a.m. Sunday, police received a report of a second shooting at Gail and Walhausen streets, Hearnes said. Responding officers found two vehicles that had been struck by stray bullets, he said.
"No victims have come forth from the second shooting, and no witnesses have been located," the director said.
