Two women were injured Tuesday in an accident on Route K near the Hillcrest subdivision in Cape Girardeau. Gordonville firefighters spent about 20 minutes extricating one of the injured, Martha Craft of Whitewater, whose 1996 Chevrolet truck was struck head-on by Georgia James, 75, of Cape Girardeau, who was traveling east on Route K when she crossed the center line just before 3:30 p.m. Craft, 42, sustained serious injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and appeared to have bruising and scrapes on her legs and was wearing a neck brace as she was placed in the ambulance. James' Buick Enclave suffered major front-end damage. Both women were transported by Cape County Private Ambulance to an area hospital. The Cape Girardeau Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist Gordonville firefighters. Traffic was stopped on Route K for nearly an hour while emergency personnel cleared the scene.
