Cape Girardeau police arrested two suspects Monday morning in connection with a weekend robbery that allegedly left an elderly woman with an injured hip and without a car, cellphone, wallet and television.
Napoleon A. Cornelius Jr., 18, of Cape Girardeau and Britney L. Morse, 22, of Perryville, Missouri, have been charged with second-degree robbery and first-degree burglary, both felonies; and felony stealing a motor vehicle. Police say the couple robbed the elderly Cape Girardeau woman Sunday afternoon.
The victim told police the couple had asked for a glass of water when arriving at her house in the 500 block of North Sprigg Street. She agreed, later saying she recognized Cornelius as a friend of her family members. Once he got inside, the victim told police, Cornelius pushed her to the ground.
The suspects then allegedly stole the woman's television, wallet and cellphone before fleeing in her 1997 brown Ford Taurus. The victim injured her hip. She was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
The victim's car has not been found, and police are asking that if anyone finds a 1997 brown Ford Taurus with Missouri handicap plates CS76T, they report it to the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621.
A police investigation identified the two suspects and located them at a local hotel Monday morning, where the pair were taken into custody. Each is being held at the Cape Girardeau County Sherriff's Department on $75,000 bond.
