Two men were arrested Sunday after a search of their car revealed more than half a pound of cocaine.

According to Cape Girardeau police, Vincent L. McNeil Jr., 24, of St. Louis, and Michael Oliver, 25, of Swansea, Ill., were stopped at William and South Lorimier streets around 10:30 p.m. on a traffic stop. Police said a search of their vehicle revealed 9.6 ounces of cocaine and 11.3 grams of marijuana.

The street value of the cocaine was about $16,000, said police spokesman Jason Selzer.

Officers determined that the cocaine belonged to Oliver, even though they found the drug on McNeil. Selzer said officers found the cocaine in a bag stuffed in a sock that was tied to McNeil's belt loop and tucked in his pants.

"But Oliver was the guy missing a sock," Selzer said.

Oliver was charged Monday with felony drug trafficking and misdemeanor possession of controlled substances. He is being held in the Cape Girardeau County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

McNeil was charged Monday with possession of controlled substances; his bond is $5,000.

Oliver was also arrested on warrants from Boone County for failure to appear on various traffic offenses. At the time of his arrest, he had to be taken to a local hospital after complaining of feeling dizzy, Selzer said.
