A burglary that occurred in January at Kesler Farms in Oran, Mo., was recently solved when the two alleged burglars began forging and attempting to use the checks that had been stolen during the incident, police said.
Sikeston police arrested Rebecca Colbert-Penrose, 41, and Chad Goza, 31, both of Sikeston, Mo., after investigating the forging of several checks stolen from the farm office, according to a news release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
Police served a search warrant at the residence of Goza and Colbert-Penrose and allegedly found some stolen property reported missing from Kesler Farm after the burglary.
Scott County prosecutor Paul Boyd charged Goza with seceond-degree burglary and four counts of forgery. The case was transferred Monday to Mississippi County on a change of venue.
Goza also had a warrant issued for his arrest in Butler County on April 16 on forgery charges. He was arrested in February on a Stoddard County warrant for forgery. A Cape Girardeau County warrant was also issued for forgery April 14.
Colbert-Penrose is charged with burglary and receiving stolen property. All charges are in Scott County court.
She was charged in November of 2007 with receiving stolen property. Colbert-Penrose was also charged with forgery April 14 in Cape Girardeau.
