Youth Attains Twirling Honors
Megan Hawk, a member of the Southeast Area Twirlers Cape/Jackson Competition Class, recently competed in the Miss Shamrock Majorette Competition.
In championship events Megan placed third in the sportswear model Miss Shamrock Pageant, and photogenic majorette divisions. Hawk earned several open awards including first place in instate solo; second place in the special novice basic strut special novice solo and novice open solo; third place in beginner basic strut; and fourth place in costume model and novice basic strut.
She recently attended the Miss I.L.T. twirling contest returning home with second place in the photogenic majorette division, novice and beginner visitor solo divisions, and in the novice and beginner flag divisions. Hawk was also awarded three third place, three fourth place, two fifth place, and three participation awards. Hawk is the daughter of Jason and Julie Hawk and is the twirling student of Kandi Barksdale-Staples.Southeast Missourian
Twirlers Chelsey Lukefahr, left, and Maysi Dougherty recently attended the Miss Shamrock Majorette Competition where they competed in various twirling events; Lukefahr was awarded second place and Dougherty fifth place.
The two performed a one-baton duet routine together and were awarded second place in the beginner division.
Lukefahr received open honors including a participation award in modeling; first, third, and fourth place in basic strut; two fourth, one fifth, and two participation in solo.
Dougherty earned a participation award in modeling; two second place and one fifth place in basic strut; one second-place and four participation awards in solo.

Southeast area twirler Nina Moore recently took part in the Miss Shamrock Majorette Competition, earning the title of 2003 Novice 13-15 Miss Shamrock Queen.
She was awarded first place honors for her performances in a show-twirl routine to "Wild Wild West." Moore also earned first place wins in the basic strut division and in three solo events which advanced her to the beginner level. Additional awards include second place in beginner basic strut; third place in beginner instate solo and two participation awards.
Moore is a solo competition twirler, a member of the Southeast Senior Parade Corp. serving as a feature twirler in parades and the twirling student of Kandi K. Barksdale-Staples of East Prairie.
