LEBANON, Mo. -- A two-vehicle accident Saturday on Interstate 44 spawned three other chain-reaction crashes, causing 22 injuries and delaying traffic nearly four hours, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
The first accident happened at 1:45 p.m. when a pickup truck ran off the road and overturned.
At 2:20 p.m., while traffic was backed up from the first crash, the first chain-reaction accident occurred. That crash involved six vehicles and injured seven people. Ten minutes later, another crash involved six vehicles and injured 11 people.
At 3:45 p.m., the fourth wreck occurred when another vehicle was hit from behind.
