Provocative dance hall girls dress the part during jackson's "Good Old Days."
There will be plenty of demonstrations of how thing used to be in Jackson on Oct. 1 as the city celebrates its second annual "Good Old Days."
People dressed in turn-of-the century attire will stroll the streets of downtown Jackson on Saturday, Oct. 1, during the second annual Good Old Days celebration.
It'll be a step back in history as horses will be hitched to posts along High Street, no cars in parking places this day.
Wagons will roll from the downtown area to the historic train station, and kids and adults are expected to join the wagon trains.
The event is being sponsored by the Jackson Merchants' Association. Last year over 3,000 people attended the festivities.
There will be children and adult games, crafts, music, dancing, antique machinery, various demonstrations, a kids' tractor pull and even a bank robbery.
Vanita Jones, president of the Merchants' Association, said new features will be added this year.
"It'll be a full day of fun for the whole family. Good homemade food and drink will be served all day, " Jones said.
There will be an authentic dress contest held in the early afternoon. Men, women and children will be judged on the authenticity of their costumes, which will resemble clothes worn in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
A custom-made hat contest for the ladies should provide interest, and the kids will find various entertainment on the streets and courthouse lawn.
Room is still available for booths from which crafts and other items can be shown, demonstrated and sold.
For more information on the contests, call Vanita Jones at 243-7117 or Judy Sander at 243-7933. For information on the booths, call Joyce Ross or Judy Leist at 243-8585.
