Tunes at Twilight series resumes Friday

The popular Tunes at Twilight outdoor music series returns this week in Cape Girardeau for the fall season.

The free Friday evening concerts at the Common Pleas Courthouse gazebo on Lorimier Street kick off this week with an ice cream social.

Old Town Cape organized the event to celebrate downtown's recent designation as a Great American Main Street Community. The first 300 attendees will receive free ice cream from Port Cape Girardeau beginning at 6 p.m.

Jack Williams will be the performing artist Friday. He will be followed by Jimmy Davis on Aug. 21; Bottle Rocket Cabaret on Aug. 28; The Babbas on Sept. 4; Chad Elliott on Sept. 11; and Rod Picott on Sept. 18.

Each concert begins at 6:30 p.m. If it rains, a designated location will be announced on Old Town Cape's website and social media no later than 4:30 p.m. the day of the event.

The lineup is a mixture of folk, Americana, country, bluegrass and "easy listening genres that offer something for everyone," according to the news release from Old Town Cape. Concerts regularly draw up to 650 or more people who claim their spots around the gazebo with lawn chairs and blankets, the organization said.

Tunes at Twilight is organized by Old Town Cape. SoutheastHEALTH is the premier sponsor, with additional sponsors including FOX 23 KBSI, My 49 WDKA and Cape Air. Grant assistance is provided through the Missouri Arts Council.
