A 45-foot yacht lost its steering unit Tuesday about a mile north of the Mississippi River bridge, said authorities with the Cape Girardeau fire department, who called in for a river rescue.
No one was injured in the incident.
The captain of the yacht dropped anchor in main channel of river.
Rescue workers contacted the U.S. Coast Guard in Paducah who notified by radio all local river traffic.
Barges were halted until a tugboat from Trailer Brothers, the construction company currently working on the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, came to the yacht's aid.
The tugboat pushed the stranded yacht out of harm's way so river traffic could continue.
