The fire damage was confined to the living room of the 1 story duplex at 1019 Village Lane, according to East County Fire Department officials. However, there was extensive smoke and water damage to the other rooms on the first and second floors, and minor smoke damage to the adjoining residence, said fire officials. It occurred around 5:49 p.m. Monday.

The Barnharts have three children, ages 12, 11 and six. No one was injured in the blaze.

Sharon Moore, mother of Darlene, said the family lost most everything due to fire, water or smoke. "The neighbors donated a lot of clothes, but they didn't have any insurance. They need money to buy beds, linen, towels and basic supplies. All their furniture in the living room burned."
