A truck took out some telephone lines Wednesday in Jackson, disabling the Cape Girardeau County government's telephone service.

According to Eric McGowen, county information technology director, all Jackson-based county government agencies were unreachable by telephone early Wednesday afternoon because of the accident behind the County Administration Building about noon.

"It was an oversized truck that didn't make the corner," McGowen said.

According to McGowen, the county's 911 service still functioned, and people wanting to call the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department could use an alternate phone number, 270-1123.

Crews were on site Wednesday trying to restore telephone service to county agencies, McGowen said.
