Ameren Missouri reported about 2,500 customers lost power in the Cape Girardeau area beginning at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The outage area extended from Egypt Mills in the east to Allenville in the west. A total of 2,556 customers were without power — about 10 percent of the Ameren customers in the area.
Ameren spokesman Jeff Trammel said the outages began when a truck backed into a power pole near a viaduct. Most customers’ power returned before mid-afternoon.
