A trial date has been set for a Sikeston, Missouri, woman accused of running down a man in a parking lot.
Savannah R. Davis, 28, will appear in Mississippi County court Sept. 17 and 18 for a jury trial on second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges.
Davis is accused of deliberately running over John Sharber, 57, in the Sikeston Wal-Mart parking lot July 10, then driving around for about three hours before finally dropping him off at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, according to a probable-cause statement filed in the case.
Sharber was diagnosed with a cracked skull and other internal injuries; he was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where he later died, the statement said.
Sharber's wife told police he had been having trouble with a woman in a maroon car who was unhappy with work he'd done on an appliance he'd sold her, the statement said. Wal-Mart surveillance footage showed a maroon car running over Sharber in the parking lot.
A man and woman who had seen Sharber on the ground and thought he had passed out came over to help the driver put him in the back seat of the car, according to the statement. The man said the driver identified Sharber as "Johnny Arbuckle" and told them Sharber was drunk and she was taking him home, the statement said.
The man later identified Davis as the driver of the car from a lineup of six photos.
Cellphone records show Davis had called Sharber 22 times between 8 and 8:57 p.m., the statement said. Cellphone records and tower locations helped determine Davis had taken Sharber to the west side of Sikeston, then on back roads to Cape Girardeau, driving around for about three hours before Sharber was found at the hospital, according to the statement.
Davis remains in custody.
