KENNETT, Mo. -- A November trial is scheduled for a Bootheel man accused of murdering his 3-year-old neighbor.
Shawn Morgan of Senath, Mo., accused in the murder of Breeann Rodriguez, has been scheduled to stand trial beginning Nov. 18.
Jury selection will be Nov. 14 in Phelps County. An additional day has been slotted if need arises. The trial will be in Dunklin County.
Morgan was arrested Aug. 13, 2011, for the disappearance and murder of Rodriguez, who went missing Aug. 6 from her neighborhood in Senath.
Ten days later, her remains were found near ditches northeast of Hornersville, Mo., approximately 8 miles southeast of her home.
Morgan is charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence, child kidnapping and possession of child pornography.
Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen P. Sokoloff will seek the death penalty.
