Giving reached an all-time high for the local Salvation Army's Tree of Lights campaign, which surpassed its 1993 goal, raising $118,000. Giving reached an all-time high for the local Salvation Army's Tree of Lights campaign, which surpassed its 1993 goal, raising $118,000.

"Giving is at an all-time high for the Salvation Army in this area," said Capt. Elmer Trapp, "which helps us meet the needs. The money that was raised at Christmas will be used throughout the year for rental and utility assistance, food, clothing, prescriptions, lodging for transients and meals tickets."

Trapp said that requests for service also were higher than in the past. The Salvation Army provided holiday assistance to 5,461 individuals this year, about 1,000 more than in 1993.

Carol Keeler served as chairman of this year's campaign.
