The explosion Thursday morning was extremely loud and sent up large amounts of smoke, said Mark Christian, communications director for the plant. No one was injured and the fire was contained by the Noranda Emergency Action Team, with help from the Associated Electric Cooperative emergency response team.

The effect of losing the transformer is being assessed, Christian said.
