The success Trans-Siberian Orchestra has experienced on its three yearly concerts at the Show Me Center since 2004 may be responsible for bringing one of the biggest touring rock acts in the industry to Cape Girardeau this June.
The Show Me Center announced Tuesday that L.A. prog-metal foursome Tool will perform at the venue on June 16. The band has a loyal following and has sold millions of records since making a name for itself with the breakout hit "Sober" from 1993's "Undertow." Concert industry tracking organization Pollstar currently has Tool ranked number four on its "power index." Def Leppard, Korn and The Police are ranked one through three.
Over the last three years, attendance at TSO's Show Me Center dates has increased from 4,300 in 2004 to 5,500 last year.
Shannon Buford, SMC marketing director, said the relationship established with concert promoter AEG Live due to those shows created a good working relationship between them and the local venue, leading to Tool's booking here. AEG is handling two shows on the Tool tour, the Cape Girardeau concert and one in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
"We impressed them every time TSO came here, from the fans to the service they received ... that is why they looked at us for this Tool date," said Buford.
