Dale E. Gerecke, Cape Girardeau attorney, recently attended a Missouri Bar seminar entitled "Hot Topics for the Business Lawyer."

The seminar featured discussions on classifications of individuals as employers or independent contractors. Also discussed were recent trends in case law and legislation affecting business climate, a review of Missouri's new ethics law, and a session on how to preserve attorney-client privilege in business transactions.

Gerecke is managing partner of Finch, Bradshaw, Strom and Steele. He and his firm engage in general civil and criminal practice and handle a variety of corporate and business matters.

Jim Sanders, John Sanders, and David Sanders, all of Sanders True Value Hardware stores in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, recently attended the True Value Hardware Fall Red Carpet Market in Chicago.

The buying market is held each spring and fall at Cotter and Co.'s national headquarters for True Value stores.

The weeklong market offers True Value store representatives an opportunity to meet and place merchandise orders with any of the 900 supply and manufacturing firms whose products are on display at the annual show.

More than 7,000 True Value Hardware stores operate throughout the United States.

Joe T. Buerkle of Buerkle, Beeson and Ludwig law firm of Jackson, recently attended the annual Advanced Estate Planning Institute at the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

The two-day seminar was an advanced seminar for estate planners. Among topics discussed were charitable giving, planning for disability and health care decisions, and an in-depth look at the generation-skipping transfer tax.

Also discussed was the new Chapter 14 of Internal Revenue Code for corporations and partnerships.

David A. Goncher, agent with Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Cape Girardeau and an associate of the J.R. Mentel District Agency in St. Charles, has received recognition as a leading Top 10 disability agent for Minnesota Mutual Life.

Goncher is ranked fifth among the National Production Group. He owns the Cape Girardeau agency and has been affiliated with the Mentel Agency for seven years.

Goncher and his wife, Janet, live in Cape Girardeau. They are parents of two daughters.

Lyn Muzzy, director of the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau, recently attended the National Tour Association's 1991 convention in Cleveland, Ohio.

The convention, a primary travel event in North America, featured a tour and travel exchange, a forum for the buying and selling of travel services; sightseeing tours of the Cleveland area; seminars; and entertainment.

More than 3,000 delegates attended the event, where buyers and sellers of travel services meet to transact business. More than 60,000 business appointments were held throughout the week.

Dr. David O. Catron recently attended a continuing medical education conference entitled "Twenty-Second Family Medicine Review."

The conference, sponsored by the University of Kentucky College of Medicine at Lexington, is accredited by the American Medical Association through the Accreditation Council on Continuing Medical Education and by the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Physicians who attended received the latest information on areas of medicine.
