JACKSON Rick Sparks of Jackson, Missouri University Extension Business & Industry specialist, has been recognized as "outstanding instructor" by clients of the Missouri Small Business Development Center.
Sparks has instructed classes throughout Southeast Missouri. The classes are designed to help owners and managers of business through training related to starting up new businesses and improving business skills such as advertising, promotion, management, record keeping, taxes and communications.

Barbara Ward has been elected "Legal Secretary of the Year Second Runner Up" by delegates at the Missouri Association of Legal Secretaries Annual Convention held recently at Kansas City.
Ward is employed by the Lichtenegger, Payne & Weiss law firm in Jackson. She is currently serving as secretary of the Cape Girardeau County Legal Secretaries Association and has served as vice president and national representative.
Ward and her husband, Harold O. Ward, are parents of two children, Kevin and Kent.
Also attending the state convention as delegates of the chapter were Cheryl Amos, of the Lichtenegger, Payne & Weiss firm, and Sharon Faulkner, employed by Finch, Bradshaw, Strom & Steele law firm of Cape Girardeau.
