Jerry W. Welch recently attended the American Family Insurance All American Convention held in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was honored as one of the top agents for the firm.

Welch, who has been an American Family agent since 1981, was the company leader in sales and service from among more than 2,900 agents in a dozen states.

American Family, founded in 1927, is headquartered in Madison, Wisc.

Bob Ogles has retired from ABF Freight System, Inc., after 23 years in the company and 42 years in the transportation industry.

Ogle, a road driver for ABF's Cape Girardeau terminal, has driven almost five million miles and has 39 years of safe driving.

ABF, headquartered at Fort Smith, Ark., provides direct service to more than 30,000 points in 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico.

Jim Warf has been inducted into the Canadian Club Society, by Hiram Walker & Sons, Inc. of outstanding sales performance of the firm's flagship brand, Canadian Club Whisky.

Warf, of Sikeston, is employed by Paramount Liquor Co., in Cape Girardeau.

Warf received his Canadian Club honors during an induction ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Antonio.

JACKSON Rick Sparks of Jackson, Missouri University Extension Business & Industry specialist, has been recognized as "outstanding instructor" by clients of the Missouri Small Business Development Center.

Sparks has instructed classes throughout Southeast Missouri. The classes are designed to help owners and managers of business through training related to starting up new businesses and improving business skills such as advertising, promotion, management, record keeping, taxes and communications.

Extension programs are open to everyone.

Barbara Ward has been elected "Legal Secretary of the Year Second Runner Up" by delegates at the Missouri Association of Legal Secretaries Annual Convention held recently at Kansas City.

Ward is employed by the Lichtenegger, Payne & Weiss law firm in Jackson. She is currently serving as secretary of the Cape Girardeau County Legal Secretaries Association and has served as vice president and national representative.

Ward and her husband, Harold O. Ward, are parents of two children, Kevin and Kent.

Also attending the state convention as delegates of the chapter were Cheryl Amos, of the Lichtenegger, Payne & Weiss firm, and Sharon Faulkner, employed by Finch, Bradshaw, Strom & Steele law firm of Cape Girardeau.

Edna M. Kuykendall has been honored as "Employee of the Year" at Hamburger Express, 903 William St.

Kuykendall, a cook for the company, was also cited for three years of service. Betty Dickerson is manager of the business.
