Traffic on Normal Avenue will be rerouted beginning today to allow for replacement of a utility tunnel at Southeast Missouri State University.
Construction work is expected to last three months.
The south side of Normal between Henderson and Pacific will be closed to traffic. Two-way traffic will be routed on the north side of Normal through July, said university project manager Don Neumeyer.
During this period, parking will be banned on the north side of Normal and on Myers Drive. Only authorized vehicles going to Kent Library or the University Center will be allowed on Myers Drive, he said.
Also, the eastbound lane on the west hill of Normal will be restricted to authorized vehicles.
When work on the south side of Normal is completed in July, the area will be reopened to traffic.
Similar work will begin in August on the north side and it will be closed to through traffic. The traffic then will be routed over the south side of Normal.
Kiefner Brothers Inc. of Cape Girardeau is the contractor on the project.
