Tour of Duty run comes through Cape Girardeau

Members of the Tour of Duty Run pass by Fire Station No. 1 in Cape Girardeau Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 during the 4,600-mile, month-long journey from Los Angeles to New York City. Local fire and police personnel ran with the group as they were escorted through the city. According to its website, Tourofduty.com, the run is an emotional statement. "We run to remember the people of 9/11, to honour their sacrifice, their courage, their devotion and commitment to duty." The group of 16 Australians and 18 Americans has been running in teams almost nonstop since Aug. 12, aiming to arrive in New York City on Sept. 11.
