The National Weather Service received an unconfirmed report of a tornado Wednesday afternoon about two miles west of Chaffee. A trained spotter reported a possible tornado at 4:10 p.m. The spotter described it as narrow in scope and short in duration, said Beverly Poole, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky.

The spotter said it touched down in a field for just a few seconds and then came back up, Poole said.

A tornado watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. for Cape Girardeau, Scott, Stoddard, Mississippi and New Madrid counties.
