CARUTHERSVILLE - A storm sweeping through Pemiscot County Monday afternoon resulted caused several accidents and damage. At least one tornado was sighted.

The National Weather Bureau at Memphis, Tenn., reported tornado activity near Deering around 2:30 p.m., with a path moving east toward Caruthersville. Warning sirens sounded, but no damage was reported.

The storms accompanying strong wings and heavy rains were cited by Pemiscot County sheriff's deputies as the cause of several car accidents on Interstate 55. Emergency medical services and the Hayti Fire Department were called to the scene of the multiple vehicle accident which left one person injured.

Authorities also reported that a tree fell on an occupied vehicle at Trinity Marine Service. Emergency medical services and the Caruthersville Fire Department responded to the accident. Two people were injured.

Several houses in the rural areas were damaged by trees. Power lines were downed throughout the county.
