ST. LOUIS -- The committee seeking a new leader for the University of Missouri has identified its top choice -- and it's apparently not Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon or former Gov. Roger Wilson.

John Mathes, president of the four-campus system's Board of Curators, said Monday the committee's preferred candidate is already a university president somewhere else.

Mathes declined to reveal any other details about the top candidate but said he hoped negotiations could be wrapped up by the end of this week.
