Offices at Southeast Missouri State University will close for the holiday break at 5 p.m. Friday.

To help the university meet its energy budget, most campus buildings will remain closed until Jan. 6. The university's Board of Regents approved the conservation measure after the school's state appropriation was reduced by $942,000 on Oct. 1 to help the state finance court-ordered payments for Kansas City school desegregation.

Some buildings will be open on a minimal basis to serve the needs of the public, according to Dr. Caryl Smith, vice president for Student Affairs and chair of the Semester Break Closure Committee.

The Show Me Center will be open for the U-High Basketball Tournament Dec. 26-28 and Dec. 30; for the Southeast Indians-Oakland City basketball game at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2; for the Southeast Indian and Otahkian basketball games against Austin Peay on Jan. 4.

To help comply with energy saving measures, the athletic ticket office in the Houck Building will be moved during the holidays to the Show Me Center.

In addition, Textbook Services, located on the University Center's first floor, will be open only on Dec. 21 and 23 for students wishing to return books.

Kent Library and the Student Recreation Center will be closed to the public throughout the period of Dec. 21 through Jan. 5.

The University's Department of Public Safety will be monitoring the security and condition of buildings on campus during the break.

University offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 6. Spring semester classes will begin Jan. 13. Textbook Services will begin distributing books Jan. 6.

Open registration for spring semester classes will be held Monday through Friday and Jan. 6-10. Students wishing to make enrollment changes also may do so at that time. The enrollment office is located on the first floor of Academic Hall. Office hours on those days will be 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.
