CHAFFEE - A traffic ticket written in November against former Police Chief Ivan McLain at the order of Mayor Ron Moyers has been dismissed.
The ticket, which charged McLain with having no license plate on a vehicle he was driving, was formerly dismissed last Wednesday night, City Attorney David Summers said. Chaffee city court was held that night. The city's Municipal Judge is David Mann.
"Everything was taken care of properly," Summers said this week. When asked to elaborate, Summers said he didn't know certain information and referred a reporter to McLain. But he did say he knew the vehicle was ultimately sold.
McLain said Tuesday that he still felt the ticket was issued erroneously. "All I can say is I was called by the court clerk prior to the case and was told the case was dismissed," he said.
In December, McLain said that he bought the car, a 1965 Ford station wagon, on Nov. 23 and got the ticket Nov. 29. He said at that time that a person has 30 days to get a vehicle inspected and licensed after buying it.
McLain had said Moyers told a city patrolman to write the ticket. When the ticket was written, McLain said, he was driving the car home from work after trying to get it inspected.
He said Tuesday he never got the car registered, but sold it for "junk" last month.
McLain resigned as police chief in December after nearly nine years in the position. He had said the ticket had nothing to do with his resignation and no controversy existed.
Moyers could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
