A quick-moving thunderstorm caused power outages across parts of Southeast Missouri Sunday afternoon.

Thousands of Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City residents were without electricity for part of the afternoon.

The Jackson Police Department reported calls of downed power lines along with some tree damage after the storm passed through the area.

Sharon Raines, dispatcher for the Scott City Police Department, said the entire town was without power around 4:30 p.m.

Chaffee police dispatcher Janet Sullivan reported most of the city without power and some small limbs down.

Ameren UE crews were working to repair the damage, said Jim Niswonger, a dispatcher for the Cape Girardeau area.

"Cape Girardeau power outages are confined mostly to the southwestern section of the city," he said.

Limbs falling across power lines was the major problems reported to police and Ameren UE.

"That's the problem in Scott City and we're taking care of that," he said.

Power was later restored.
