Three certified nursing assistants at the Missouri Veterans Home of Cape Girardeau were among 46 national winners announced recently by the National Association of Geriatric Nursing Assistants. Donna Taylor was named Preceptor of the Year, Sharon Pruitt was named winner of the Resident Family Service Award and Karon Schmidt was named winner of the Essay Award. Schmidt was also named to the association's steering committee.

Three other nursing assistants from the Veterans Home were nominated for awards. Gina Brown was nominated for the team leader award, Bertha Foster for quality care provider and Judy James for best attitude.

The winners and nominees attended the association's national convention.

The theme of the this year's convention was "You Are the Magic."

Lori Porter, association co-founder and chief executive officer was guest speaker at the convention.
