Three West Virginia women arrested on forgery charges

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Three West Virginia residents were arrested late last week and charged with six counts of passing counterfeit travelers checks at the Wal-Mart in Perryville, as well as at several different locations from Memphis to St. Louis.

Police say Zina L. Ford, 41, Delcoria A. Carter, 34, and Yalonda P. Coleman, all of Charleston, W.V., were responsible for writing six counterfeit travelers checks for $100 apiece at the Wal-Mart in Perryville.

The Perryville Police Department then sent the information statewide to all law enforcement agencies regarding the types of checks being passed along with the names on the checks. Wal-Mart stores across the state were also contacted.

The department was later notified by the Festus, Mo., police department, which had the three suspects in custody. Upon being interviewed by police, all three suspects admitted to their involvement in passing the counterfeit checks. They also confessed to passing the counterfeit checks at several different locations in Memphis and St. Louis.

Bond has been set for $30,000. Police said the women may face federal interstate commerce charges as well.
