A 48-year-old Fruitland man and a Bertrand teen-ager were both seriously injured in separate accidents in Southeast Missouri Friday.

Jerry Massey of Fruitland was injured when the ATV he was driving overturned on him. The accident occurred at 7:19 p.m. Friday on Frolic Lane off Highway 177 near Trail of Tears State Park.

A spokeswoman for the Missouri Highway Patrol said Massey was attempting to climb a steep embankment when the accident occurred. He was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Dustin Holman, 16, of Bertrand sustained serious injuries in a collision with another vehicle at 6:10 p.m. Friday on Highway 77, three miles east of Benton.

The other driver, Patricia Baldwin, 50, of Benton received moderate injuries. Both were taken to St. Francis Medical Center.

The accident occurred when Holman attempted to make a left turn in front of the Baldwin vehicle and was struck, according to the Highway Patrol.

Also on Friday, Sharon Mensell, 38, of Jackson sustained moderate injuries in an accident on U.S. 61 one-half mile north of Fruitland.

She was taken to St. Francis Medical Center after the 3:10 p.m. accident.

The spokeswoman for the Highway Patrol said Mensell lost control of her vehicle while pulling a trailer. The vehicle overturned, ejecting the driver.
