Three injured in Monday eight-car pileup near Kennett

KENNETT, Mo. — Three people were injured and seven vehicles were towed following an eight-car collision at Highway 412 on Monday, six miles east of Kennett.

According to a report from Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) Trooper B.W. Emerson, the incident occurred at approximately 5:21 p.m., as Leslie Hill, 69, of Laton, Calif., was traveling westbound in a 2007 Volvo when he failed to stop for traffic which was stopped due to a road closure from a prior accident. As a result, Hill struck a 1997 GMC truck driven by Terry Grant, 36, of Hayti, Mo.

This incident resulted in a chain reaction, causing six other vehicles to be involved.

Hill's vehicle, along with three others, suffered extensive damage. The three additional vehicles included a 1995 Ford truck, driven by Thomas Russell, 33, of Kennett; a 2001 Pontiac, driven by Thomas Rose, 28, of Dyersburg, Tenn.; and a 2005 Toyota, driven by Angela Senter, 37, of Kennett.

Grant's vehicle, along with a 1998 Isuzu driven by Margaret Young, 53, of Trenton, Tenn., was totaled.

A 2007 Toyota, driven by Avery Gardner, 60, of Caruthersville, Mo., suffered moderate damage and a 2004 GMC truck, driven by Lenard Elder, 45, of Kennett, suffered minor damage.

Grant suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett, along with Russell, who suffered minor injuries, and Young, who suffered moderate injuries.
