EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. - Three people, two of them from Cape Girardeau, were injured early Saturday afternoon when two cars collided at the Illinois Route 3 and 146 intersection at the "Cape Y."
Investigators said the accident occurred when a northbound car driven by Wladimir Orloff, 49, of Cape Girardeau attempted to make a left turn onto Route 146 toward Cape Girardeau.
Authorities said the Orloff vehicle turned into the path of a southbound car driven by Melissa Rushing, 20, of Anna. The two cars collided in the southbound lane, police said.
Orloff and a passenger, Stephen Haas, 31, of Cape Girardeau, were taken to the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau by two ambulances from the Alexander County Ambulance Service.
Rushing was transported by Air Evac medical helicopter.
A hospital spokesman said Orloff and Haas were treated and released. Rushing was listed in satisfactory condition.
Police said Orloff was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic, while Rushing was issued a summons for failure to wear a seatbelt.
The accident occurred at 1:10 p.m.
