PAINTON, Mo. -- Three people were injured in a crash after a police pursuit Sunday afternoon, Missouri State Highway Patrol officials said.
According to Trooper Clark Parrott, spokesman for the Highway Patrol, the pursuit began in Scott County after a Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Curtis M. Cureton, 39, of Bell City, Mo., fled from a state trooper attempting to pull it over for a registration violation.
Parrott said the pursuit ended at 12:52 p.m. on Highway O, one mile west of Painton, Mo., in Stoddard County, where police laid spike strips across the road. The vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned after hitting the spikes, leaving Cureton and his two passengers, Curtis M. Cureton II, 16, of Bell City and Brianna Hamlin, 18, of Caffee, Mo., with moderate injuries, according the Highway Patrol crash report.
Parrott said charges are pending because officers are still investigating the incident and the reason Cureton fled.
