Two Jackson women were injured Sunday morning after a head-on collision a mile north of Fruitland.
Mary Amos and Elizabeth Wessell both received moderate injuries and were taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital after a two-vehicle accident shortly before 10 a.m. Sunday morning.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Amos was northbound on Larch Lane when she attempted to make a left turn and turned in front of the vehicle driven by Wessell. The two vehicles struck head-on and ran off the roadway, the patrol said.
The patrol also reported that a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 55, a half mile south of Benton, has left a Jackson, Tenn., girl in serious condition and five others with moderate injuries.
The vehicle was traveling southbound on I-55 when the right rear tire blew out. The driver, Jeannette Elgin of Jackson, Tenn., lost control of the vehicle, which ran off the road and overturned.
