Two men and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with robbery and other felonies for a Sept. 5 incident involving a group of up to 20 who harassed and beat a man leaving a Cape Girardeau restaurant and bar, police said.

Arrested were Robert D. Weissinger, 23, of 603 Mechaw St., and John R. Mitchell II, 19, of 1502 Scott St., Cpl. Kevin Orr said. The boy was cited into juvenile court.

The victim had told police that he had left Rufus Mudsucker's restaurant on 2 N. Main St. about 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 5. He went into the Main Street parking lot adjacent to the restaurant where a group of people were gathered.

The man told police he did not know anyone in the group, but began talking with them.

At some point, members of the group began to hit and kick the man, Orr said. During the scuffle, the man's wallet with cash and credit cards were stolen.

The man was injured in the scuffle, but refused treatment, Orr said.

On Thursday, police arrested Weissinger. He has been charged with a class B felony of second-degree robbery and a class C felony of tampering with a witness.

The tampering charge was the result of a threat Weissinger is alleged to have made, Orr said. He had told another person involved in the incident not to talk about it because he has a 9mm handgun at home and is not afraid to use it, Orr said.

Weissinger is being held in the Cape Girardeau County jail on a $150,000 cash bond.

Mitchell has been charged with second-degree robbery, and is being held on a $7,500 bond.
