CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Chaffee is without a police board, according to information revealed in interviews with Mayor Loretta Mohorc and former police board members David Ivester and Sally Wehmeyer.
Mohorc said Friday morning that both Ivester, the police board's chairman, and Wehmeyer, a former mayor and member of the police board for several years, turned in their resignations from the board this week.
Another member, Jimmy Stubbs, recently left the board due to health issues.
The other member of the four-person board, Mert Mirly, hadn't turned in his resignation as of Friday morning, Mohorc said. But both Ivester and Wehmeyer said they understood Mirly's intention was to resign. Mirly declined to comment.
Ivester and Wehmeyer said they decided to resign after irreconcilable differences with current police chief Jesse Chisum, who was recommended for the position by Ivester and hired by a city council vote Aug. 20 in an open council meeting.
