CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Two Mississippi County residents face murder charges and a third is jailed on drug charges after the body of a Poplar Bluff, Missouri, man was found floating in rural Mississippi County.
Brent Christopher Naile, 33, Faye Ettie Myers, 44, and Sabrina Kay Lewis, 41, all of East Prairie, Missouri, have been charged in connection with the death.
According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, his office received a call Saturday evening after fishermen noticed a body floating in the Drinkwater Sewer, in northern Mississippi County.
The body of the victim, Derrell Timothy Davis, 34, was pulled from the water with multiple lacerations to his neck and abdomen, according to the sheriff.
From interviews, officers determined Davis was last seen leaving a local hotel with an unidentified man Friday and had not returned. Davis' cellphone records identified Naile as the last person to contact the victim before his disappearance.
Witnesses identified Naile from a photo-lineup as the man with whom Davis left the hotel, Moore said in a news release.
Before dawn Saturday, officers located Naile hiding in the Eagles Landing subdivision in East Prairie. At the time of his arrest, Naile was holding a large knife and wearing clothes soiled with dry blood, according to deputy Cory Hutcheson's report.
Deputies obtained consent to search the residence and found prescription pain pills believed to have been taken from Davis and a large quantity of narcotics and several items associated with the use and distribution of methamphetamine, according to the report. As a result of the search, Lewis was arrested.
Several hours later, after the receipt of additional information, a deputy and investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime returned to the residence to speak with Myers, Lewis' sister.
"During this interaction, officers developed probable cause to believe Myers was involved in the death of Derell Davis," Moore said.
Moore said Naile provided specific details about Davis' death that led investigators to believe he was responsible.
According to officers, Naile and Myers allegedly took Davis to a remote area of the county for the purpose of assaulting him in retaliation for a previous dispute. Davis sustained lacerations to his neck and abdomen as a result of the surprise attack.
According to Moore, the critically injured Davis was then lured back into the vehicle by a promise to seek medical attention. However, Naile and Myers allegedly cruised the back roads until Davis died then dumped his body in the nearest body of water.
Naile is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He is being held without bond.
Naile faces an additional charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, a felony punishable by not less than five years and up to 15 years in prison. Bond is set at $250,000 cash only.
Myers is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is also ordered held without bond.
Lewis is charged with unlawful use/possession of drug paraphernalia associated with the ingestion of methamphetamine, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. Her bond is set at $200,000 cash only.
