CAIRO, Ill. -- Three people were injured Friday when a utility pole fell on the car they were riding in, the Illinois State Police reports.

The accident occurred at 1:45 p.m. at Cedar and Cross streets in Cairo.

The driver of a boom truck was cited in the accident after the boom of his truck caught a utility line and pulled the pole down onto a vehicle. Tracy Wilkerson, 33, of Mounds was cited for unsafe equipment.

The state police said that the driver of the second vehicle, Derrick Moore, 21, of Cairo, received minor injuries. Also injured were passengers Minnie Lawrence, 26, of Cairo, who had major injuries and was taken to a Carbondale hospital, and Jerod Lawrence, 3, who had minor injuries and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
