An Illinois State Police trooper said Mary Jane Crowell, 15, lost control of the car she was driving, it went into a ditch and hit a tree at about 4:30 p.m. She and passenger Lori Zimmerman, 15, were treated for minor injuries and released from Union County Hospital in Anna.

Chad E. Hartline, 16, suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, where he remained in guarded condition.

Crowell received tickets for having no valid driver's license and for not wearing a seat belt, police said.
