Stan Thompson has assumed the responsibilities of president and chief executive officer of AmeriFirst Bank of Cape Girardeau.

D.L. Harrison, chairman of the board at the bank, announced Thompson's appointment this week.

Thompson, who has 30 years experience in banking, has been overseeing AmeriFirst's loan portfolio as senior lender and executive vice president.

Thompson, a native of Lilbourn, previously served as president of Mercantile Bank in Sikeston, from 1983-86, and president of Delta Counties Bank in Sikeston from 1986-90. He previously served as executive vice president of the Morrilton, Ark., Security Bank, and as a senior bank examiner for the Arkansas State Bank Department at Little Rock.

Thompson attended Southeast Missouri State University and is a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Banking at Baton Rouge, La.

Thompson, his wife, Kay, and children now reside in cape Girardeau.

AmeriFirst Bank opened in Cape Girardeau in May 1990 and moved to its new building at 3060 William in 1991.
