It was July 31, 2007 when Michael Fencel of Mounds, Ill., walked into the Brown Bag Video II adult video store in McClure, Ill., and shot two people. In the aftermath, a customer was left dead and the store clerk injured.
Last month Fencel pleaded guilty to murder and aggravated battery. Today he was sentenced to 70 years in prison.
Most people in Southeast Missouri woke up this morning to downpours of rain, and a few rumbles of thunder. While the rain wasn't enough to cause major flash flooding in Cape Girardeau, it did lead to at least one morning car accident, and a rather odd case of lightning striking a home.

It's the final chapter in clothing manufacturer Thorngate's relationship with Cape Girardeau — the company announced today that it will close its factory outlet store. The soon-to-be-defunct Thorngate factory on Independence Street will close next month.
